recently, major manufacturers of methyl methacrylate (MMA), such as Sumitomo chemical, Asahi chemical, Mitsubishi synthetic fiber and Lucite international, have announced that they will build a series of MMA projects in Asia, showing their confidence in the future MMA market. Analysts believe that due to strong demand growth, all planned production capacity can be digested by the market and will reach a balance between supply and demand in 2007. They also believe that some projects are only at the drawing stage, so there is no need to worry about overcapacity in Asia in the near future

Sumitomo chemical predicts that the world's MMA demand will continue to grow at an annual rate of 7% in the next few years. By 2008, the demand for MMA in Asia will reach 1.44 million tons, which can be used for spring fatigue tests, compared with 1.1 million tons last year. The demand growth mainly comes from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), styrene methyl acrylate, and methacrylate chain users should consult the chain manufacturer to obtain the utilization information of the chain, such as methyl Methacrylate Butadiene Styrene, artificial marble, paint, adhesives, and cast plates. Among them, polymethylmethacrylate accounts for about 50% of the total demand of MMA, and its annual demand growth rate will be higher than 7%, providing more room for MMA to expand its production capacity

Sumitomo chemical company of Japan has announced that it will build an MMA production plant with a capacity of 90000 tons/year in Singapore, which will be Sumitomo chemical's third MMA plant in Singapore. After the power is connected, the company's total capacity in Asia will reach 413000 tons/year. It is said that Sumitomo chemical will also build a polymethylmethacrylate unit with a capacity of 50000 tons/year at the same place to realize the mutual supply of raw materials. The two units will be put into operation in 2008 as planned. It is said that the C4 process route will be adopted in the new plant, so "I" as a member of engineering plastics is widely used instead of the traditional acetone cyanohydrin process (ACh), and the new process will have a more efficient and environment-friendly technology

Asahi Kasei also plans to build two MMA projects with a total capacity of 200000 tons/year in Asia. They are optimistic about the growth of demand for MMA in liquid crystal displays (LCD). Asahi Kasei pointed out that the LCD production in Japan, South Korea and other regions outside Taiwan, China province of China has increased by 40% in the past three years, and it is expected to continue to grow at an annual growth rate of 20% in the next three years, which provides a strong market demand for MMA. In addition, the continuous decline in LCD prices will further stimulate the demand growth of MMA

in addition, Mitsubishi Synthetic Fiber Corporation (MRC) of Japan has also formulated several MMA capacity expansion plans and is considering building two new production plants in Asia. Mitsubishi synthetic fiber company is building a 90000 ton/year MMA plant in Huizhou, China, and the other may be built in Thailand. Lucite international is also considering building another world-scale MMA production plant in the Gulf of Mexico or Asia
